Pros: This scanner does a great job decoding P25 phase 1 and phase 2 most of the time, and less affected by multi site dropout. It has a sensitive receiver and is not affected by intermod nearly as much as my previous scanners.
Cons: I have programmed other digital scanners after briefly reviewing the instruction manual. The owner's manual for this scanner is almost impossible to comprehend, and makes the programming very difficult.

Been scanning for decades, this is the first digital for me. With the stock antenna, I could pick up most of the sites I programmed in using the Freescan software. Bought a dipole antenna and put it above the roof -- world of difference! Picking up transmissions I've never heard before -amazing reception! I can even get the FM radio stations that won't come in on any of my FM radios.
The price is great, fast shipping, no complaints whatsoever.
The BCD996P2 has brought radio scanning back to life for me, much better than it has ever been with previous scanners. This unit is packed full of options and possibilities.
One option I wish Uniden would consider is a temporary Priority button that could be assigned to any frequency or station while it is live during scanning - that would be an easy way to keep track of any on-going action without having to use the Hold button.

Save yourself lots of time and trouble. Join radioreference.com, read the articles about this radio, download the FreeScan software and the database from RadioReference and use the enclosed USB-B cable to program your scanner. Also access the "Easier to Read" manual. The nature of digital and trunking systems nowadays is complicated. This scanner does all it can to make it easy but it's still not. Not by a long shot. But this is a fine radio, has great audio--once I get accustomed to some channels' robot digital audio--and seems to hear very well, even with only the supplied whip antenna for the time being. Good, quick order fulfillment from Main Trading Co., too.
