This amp was sold new in October of this year. I called the customer as we do with every amp that we sell. He said he has ran SPE amps before. I strongly suggested that he contact Dan Tassell to get a CAT cable. He said he knew what he was doing and was not going to do that. I had a bad feeling and released the amp anyway for shipment. He got it in on a Friday. Hooked it up and ran it in a contest that weekend. He had blown it up by Sunday. He called early the next week and wanted to send it in for warranty. We got it back. It had multiple high SWR and multiple over driving alarms. He had ignored all of the alarms and kept pushing it and blew one of the LDMOS finals. We just refunded him. This type of repair would not have been covered under warranty. We felt like fixing it and sending it back to him would be a mistake because he would probably blow it again since he refused to take full advantage of the protection built into the amp by not running Dan's cables and by ignoring the alarms

He never bothered to take the time and set it up properly with his antennas either. He immediately put it right into service without properly setting it up

We fixed the amp and actually learned more about the procedure and design of the RF section of these awesome amplifiers. These things are built like a tank. They are holding up very well in contest and high duty cycle environments. Hundreds have now sold and this is the first one that came back with an LDMOS failure. The technicians and factory agree it was customer abuse.

The alarms sounded multiple times and the amp shut down multiple times for being over driven. It did its job and protected itself but the customer overrode all safety features and continued to push the amp to try and drive it harder and get every last watt out of it. He pushed it into saturation multiple times and blew a final. With proper ALC connections this would not have happened

The moral of the story, If you get a new SPE Expert amp get a CAT cable from Dan. The proper cabling will protect your investment and you will have no issues. If you get an alarm, Stop, and fix the problem. You will have no issues

This amp has two minor scuffs upon the top panel. The rest of this amplifier is pristine and nice. Comes with ALL factory inclusions. Wired for 220V.
