My first mobile for Ham. I'm used to commercial mobiles and software. Easy to program with KW software and a $15 cable. Also not bad to do on front panel. Radio works great. I'm running a NMO mount with a 1/4 wave antenna, I get 20/50 out (25/65 advertised) with no reflected on my Bird meter. Would like to get that power up. Good radio though!

This is the third TM281 I've bought. They are reliable, easy to program, and a great all around deal. I like the forward facing speaker instead of a speaker on the bottom. The numbers and letters on the display is easy for me to see. these radios are quite rugged. I have one for the QTH, one for the truck, and gave the other one to a friend that is a new ham. I'll probably get one for the XYL too. Oh, and the programing software is FREE.

The TM-281A is my first Kenwood transceiver and I must say, this is already my favorite ham radio I've ever used compared to all the others before it. It comes with a great mic and is very ruggedly built. I highly recommend it.
The front facing speaker is a plus. I programmed my local and club repeaters in minutes using a USB programming cable available separately. Also the only 2M radio with a actual S meter display I've ever used.
I plan on the purchase of a second unit soon for my other vehicle to replace a Chinese radio.

I'm not a UHF operator and I don't do nets all over the place so this radio fit my needs perfectly. Audio reports are top notch and the front firing speaker is really great.
I also want to give props to MTC for price, speed of processing and delivery. This was my first order with them and I will be back.

I have owned a TM-271A for about 7 years and am well pleased with it and this radio is no different. Super easy to program, great audio, simple and rugged. Tough to beat if you only need a single band radio and for the price it's almost worth buying an extra to have a spare setting around. NOAA weather channels and weather alert, front firing speaker and easy to program with no software if you so choose.

This my second purchase of this model radio because of such great serviceability from my first. My other radio is mounted in my buggy and has really taken a beating because of the terrain and constantly in the weather. Takes a beating and keeps on working! MTC is also great to work with because of good & timely customer service!

Kenwood's great sound and very good output of 65 watts! Channels are easy to program into the unit. I don't have the programming cable and software. Don't guess I will bother with spending the money. I'm using a little Tram mag mount antenna and I can easily talk 30-40 miles. Just depends upon where I am mobile, of course.
