  1. An Amazing Radio! 5 Star Review

Posted by on 7th Jul 2019

There is a steep learning curve to master all of the functions built into this amazing piece of technology, but once you do, it becomes easy to navigate the menu and easy to use. Download the complete manual and do your homework and you will be rewarded with an outstanding handheld radio. I have been using a TH-D72a for several years which has similar menu functions but the addition of D-Star capability and the built in general coverage receiver is a big plus. This is an expensive radio but MTC’s excellent pricing made it easier to afford.

  2. Very easy to use one you know the Menues 5 Star Review

Posted by on 22nd Aug 2018

One you know all the menus it is really easy to do almost anything. The free programming app works really good and is a lot easier than the dtmf.

  3. Great upgrade from D72! 5 Star Review

Posted by on 27th Jul 2018

Being a long term user of the Kenwood D-72, I feel the D74 has great potential.

I have multiple handheld radios. I know the D74 lacks the durability of my VX-6R, VX-8GR, or FT1D radios. That said, I planned it to be a radio to use at home, or inside the camper, not on my belt.

It was easy to setup, I was up and running on APRS in 20 minutes.

  4. Great APRS, D-STAR, and Triband Handheld 4 Star Review

Posted by on 27th Jul 2018

This is my first new radio purchase this in a long time. This is an "upgrade" to my TH-D7AG and I am having a great time with it. I have been active on APRS since the '90s and D-STAR since 2006. The SWL function is less than optimal and I wish Kenwood would make the D-STAR GPS format DPRS compliant (link a TX Message to the GPS message) (reason for 4 stars instead of 5). Other than that, I am very happy with the product. I am also extremely happy with MTC's quick order fulfillment.

  5. solid, mobile, and fully loaded 5 Star Review

Posted by on 1st Aug 2017

have had this product for 1 month and cannot stop looking at it; it has very attractive utilitarian aesthetic and it walks the walk too. Ir recommend buying a removable screen protector to cover the screen as i have heard it can scratch easily.
Has nice rubber ducky on it so no pressure to immediately swap out.
Menu is extremely intuitive and friendly, meaning the radio wont explode if you click the wrong thing, easy learning curve.
I'd buy it again, really friendly folks at MTC too.

  6. TFT Display with wideband RX, APRS, and DSTAR and triband 5 Star Review

Posted by on 2nd Dec 2016

Kenwood has raised the stakes in coming out with this radio. Finally, a radio, that has a wideband receive, that is tri-band, has DSTAR, and it has APRS and a TNC. This is the only handheld on the market that has these capabilities in one radio. Also, this display is beautiful and bright, especially for those of us who are getting older eyes. I have over 10 handhelds and this just became my favorite.

  7. Best HT Kenwood has ever made 5 Star Review

Posted by on 21st Oct 2016

I've only had this radio for a couple of days. But let me tell you it rocks! Kenwood finally got on the bandwagon with Icom on the DStar radios and this one just blows me away. I have been using DStar since 2007 and I personally believe this is the easiest radio to use for DStar. Oh and did I mention it does APRS too? Yes this thing is an TH-F6 (does 220mhz), a D72 (does APRS), and an Icom ID51 all rolled into the same radio. It is a lifesaver as I don't have to carry three radios around to do the same as this one. Don't wait - go out and buy this thing. And also let me add - you can't go wrong by buying from MTC Radio. Richard always takes good care of you. And no - I am not a paid advertiser for him.
