I wanted a basic transceiver at a very good price. This one fits the bill nicely, very few bells and whistles but a good receiver and transmitter. Has all the useful connections on the rear but doesn't. Have a data input for digital modes. You will have to use the microphone jackfor that. Not an insurmountable problem. Very happy with it so far.

I PURCHASE THIS RADIO SPECIFICALLY FOR CAMPING.
I SET IT UP WITH THE LDG MATCHING TUNER AND ALINCO POWERSUPPLY ON A PARK BENCH. HOISTED A ENHANCED G5RV IN THE PECAN TREES AND WORKED DX ON 100 WATTS.
I WOULD BY ANOTHER ONE.

The Alinco DX SR8T has been an awesome radio straight out of the box. No extra filters needed. Simple set up. Great audio reports on the regional HF nets. First contact was breaking into a pile-up on 20 meters and working Norway on the second try. The receiver is better than my FT-857.
