  1. Great radio, easy to operate 5 Star Review

Posted by on 3rd Jul 2017

I have one of these in my home shack, so when it came time for our club to outfit a emergency shelter this is the dual band radio we picked first. It has many of the same features as other brands, but backlighting of the buttons is a real winner in your mobile or a dimly lit room. Can't say enough about MTC, their prices, and the mom and pop operation that appreciate their customers.

  2. Back on the air 5 Star Review

Posted by on 19th Jan 2016

My yaesu's potato head mic gave out again and I decided it was time to replace it. The tech I talked to about the yaesu suggested I contact MTC for a replacement. Finally decided on the Kenwood. the folks at MTC were very helpful; I ordered on line after talking to them. The radio, programming kit and front panel kit arrived very quickly. I was back on the air to my most used repeater within 1/2 hour of unpacking. It works great, came through very well.

  3. Great Little Radio 5 Star Review

Excellent frequency coverage. Great power. I have no problem hitting the local repeaters and I can hit some up to 50 miles with good audio.

  4. Kenwood TM-V71A 5 Star Review

Easy to program, loads of features, meets advertised specs when checked on service monitor.
One thing to consider when buying one of these is that it only has one RF out. If you use separate antennas for VHF and UHF, you will have to have a duplexer. Works great for dual band antennas.

  5. Good features at a good price. 5 Star Review

--Great radio! Sounds great like Kenwoods do. 1,000 memory channels, crossband repeat with CW ID. Even has 222, 902, and 1240Mhz ham bands for RX. It even makes a pretty good scanner too, with as much frequency coverage as it has. Highly recommended.

  6. Kenwood v71a 5 Star Review

Two years ago I purchased an Alinco 635 to crossband with, the audio was never loud enough so I got
rid of it and replaced it with the kenwood.
    Problem solved.

  7. Good crossband repeater with great Kenwood audio 5 Star Review

Posted by on 13th Jul 2014

Before I bought this, I tried two Wouxun UV8D for a portable crossband solution. Squelch problems caused me to return the two Chinese radios and I decided to buy a real, time-tested radio. The Kenwood is known for great audio and it scans fast too. I'm happy with my purchase.

  8. Superman felled by Kyptonite! Kenwood makes great radios. 5 Star Review

Second purchase from Main Trading and have nothing but complement. Quick delivery, and radio well packaged to prevent damage.

The radio, a Kenwood TM-V71a is my second one. I purchase the first from another source and liked the radio. It's easy to set up, program, and use. I have one as a base station and the other in my car. Excellent performance from both. Kenwood makes solid equipment.

  10. First mobile rig. 5 Star Review

Posted by on 21st Apr 2014

It was a tough decision between all these Yaesus, Icoms, etc... but it all boiled down to a few things:

Price was mid 300s for crossband/full duplex.

Programming is easy; but you need to learn where the buttons are. It is the same workflow as the TH-F6A so adding repeaters and freqs wasn't too hard. Also, I own two TH-F6A handhelds so that pretty much sealed the deal for me.

Receives Airband AM, and that was good enough but... I wish it could pick up as much as my TH-F6A does but...

I made my own extension kit using CAT5e cables and a couple of CAT5e couplers.

I like and don't like (at the same time) the fact that the microphone doesn't plug into the radio faceplate; but I can see reasons why you wouldn't want the microphone to plug into the faceplate. Either way, just get another CAT5e cable/coupler and be done with it.

    Overall a good radio.
