70 centimeters 430.000-450.000 MHz

ICOM ID-5100A VHF/UHF Digital Transceivers feature an intuitive touch screen interface that provides quick and smooth operation for settings and editing various functions and memories. The large, 5.5 in. 320 × 128 pixel touch display features an easy-to-see software keypad (QWERTY keyboard) that allows you to input alphanumeric characters quickly.

Expanded receiver coverage includes 118-174MHz and 375-550MHz with dual receiver capability that allows you to receive two bands simultaneously (including within a single band). Almost all VHF & UHF communications are available to you! ID-5100As also have simultaneous receive for FM/FM and FM/DV modes, and the capability of monitoring two DV signals. The main band audio has priority if two DV signals come in at the same time.

These transceivers feature integrated GPS which allows you to transmit and receive position data from the built-in GPS receiver. Position, course, speed and altitude are shown on the display. The GPS position information can be used for exchanging position reports, tracing the GPS log and searching for nearby repeater sites. Their GPS antenna is located in the remote head, no external GPS antenna required.

The DV/FM repeater list function assists you in accessing near-by repeaters, even when you are visiting an area for the first time. This function searches for near-by repeaters using the repeater memories with the GPS position information.

To use the repeater list function, the position data of the repeater is required in the repeater list. ID-5100As are shipped with a limited number of repeater memories preprogrammed. Dplus Reflector link commands are added to the DR function to allow easy reflector operation. Use Reflector, link/unlink to Reflector, echo-test and repeater information commands are selectable.

Built-in CTCSS and DTCS tones are used for accessing closed repeaters or tone squelch operation. The pocket beep alerts you with a beep sound when the transceiver receives a preset tone. 1750Hz tone is also available.

The UT-133 optional Bluetooth® board is necessary for operation with the optional VS-3 headset and the optional RS-MS1A, Android™ application. (Free download from Google Play™) The Android™ application also provides second-station control through an Android device.

  1. Great transceiver with one problem 5 Star Review

Posted by on 14th Jun 2021

The 5100 is a very solid D-Star capable dual band radio. The display is really big and very user friendly especially in a mobile environment. Good solid power across both bands and great receive. This is actually the fourth unit that I purchased. The only caveat with this great radio is the display. As a matter of fact, the only reason why I had to buy this particular unit is to replace the control head on my other unit in the car. If the head unit gets hot or sunlight after a few years it fades to just about non-readable. I purchased this radio for under $400, to get the control head repaired from Icom would be almost $300 so this way I have a spare radio. MTC radio has always been my go-to vendor for purchasing these and many other units because of the amazing service and delivery as promised.

  4. great radio and service 5 Star Review

Love this radio, the only thing Icom could do to make this better would be provide the mounting bracket for it. Fast service from MTC also.

  6. Best Mobile Radio on the Planet! (In my opinion) 5 Star Review

Posted by on 27th Dec 2016

I have been into DSTAR for a few years and i finally decided to get the ICOM ID-5100A. I have had this radio in my vehicle for a little over two months and i love it. I already had the ICOM IC-7100 and the menus are nearly identical. Anyone into DSTAR or just want a fantastic dual band, dual display radio, go with the 5100. You will not regret it!

  7. great radio great price 5 Star Review

very easy to use . touch screen nice . big display why ICOM does not send a mounting bracket is somewhat disappointing but you can easily make your own for a few dollars so I guess I'd rather save the money on the total cost of the radio . 5/99. all the way ...73

  8. Outstanding radio - except for one thing.... 4 Star Review

Posted by on 26th Sep 2016

I had wanted an Icom ID-5100A since they first hit the market. I had 2 IC-2820H's and sold one of them as well as some other stuff I hadn't been using for a while and was able to get this rig at a very attractive price.
I have been involved in Dstar for 8 years beginning with an IC-2200 in 2006. So I am very familiar with how Dstar works and programming the various radios to use it.
Reading some reviews on another site can lead to an idea that the ID-5100 is very complicated to program and use. This is not true. With the touch screen menu system it is the easiest Dstar radio I have used.
The one drawback to this radio is the display. The IC-2820 had a horrible display if you used it as a mobile rig. My display head for that radio was mounted on the center of the dash, below the "entertainment" and A/C and heater controls in my Dodge Ram. Durig bright sunshine the display was very difficult to see. While the control head for the ID-5100 is almost twice as big as the 2820, it is SLIGHTLY more readable than the 2820.
Other than that one minor deficiency (probably fixable with a firmware update) this is a dream rig....

  9. Awesome Radio 5 Star Review

Great radio. Why did I wait so long.
It's not hard it's just different.
